Islamic Coalition Party backs Ahmadinejad

In a statement issued on Sunday the Islamic Coalition Party officially announced support for President Ahmadinejad in the upcoming presidential election.

The statement issued after Followers of Imam Line and Leadership Front held a meeting on April 24 and reached a consensus on Ahmadinejad’s candidacy. Islamic Coalition Party is one of the FILLF members.
Ahmadinejad has left “acceptable” records in his tenure as president, the statement said. The statement also called for a huge turnout.
Parliamentary faction backs Ahmadinejad
A principlist parliamentary group called the Islamic Revolution Caucus announced support for President Ahmadinejad in a statement released on Sunday.
National TV be impartial in elections
MP Ghodratollah Alikhani stated on Sunday that Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) should show impartiality in the presidential campaigns by rival political factions.
IRIB is a national broadcaster and belongs to all Iranians, he told the Mehr News Agency. He added all of the country’s political movements should be seen equally.
The cleric MP said that IRIB’s partiality to a special political movement is completely obvious.
Reformist MPs meet Mousavi
Members of the reformist parliamentary faction were to meet presidential challenger Mousavi on Sunday evening, MP Mohsen Nariman stated. The meeting was to be held in Mousavi’s office at 6 o’clock to discuss presidential issues.
Names of qualified candidates will be announced May 20
Interior Ministry election chief Kamran Daneshju elaborated on the details of the June presidential election on Sunday. Daneshju noted that the qualification of candidates will be examined by the Guardian Council and the process will start on May 9 and lasts for five days.
He said the names of qualified candidates will be announced publicly on May 20 and 21.
Candidacy registration will start on May 5 and lasts for five days. The official presidential campaigns will start on May 22 and lasts for twenty days. The presidential election will be held on June 12.
Daneshju said that if only 6 candidates contest the election, each candidate will have the chance to appoint one representative in each polling station.
Principlist MPs to declare stance on elections
Asadollah Badamchian stated on Sunday that Majlis principlist faction will issue an election statement in future. Talking to reporters, he said that the majority of principlist faction will support Ahmadinejad in the presidential race. He said Ahmadinejad is more favored than other candidates.
Rezaii due in Qom to meet religious figures
Mohsen Rezaii will travel to Qom on Monday to discuss his likely presidential candidacy with religious figures. Rezaii has been named as the candidate of a political movement that supports the establishment of a coalition government. However, he is still mulling over the candidacy.
Karroubi to make speeches in universities of Tehran
Presidential hopeful Karroubi will deliver speeches in some Tehran’s universities on Monday and Tuesday. He will make speeches in Sharif University of Technology, and Azad University on Monday and will meet the women-only students of Az-Zahra University on Tuesday.
Islamic Society of Workers backs Ahmadinejad
In a statement issued on Sunday the Islamic Society of Workers announced support for Ahmadinejad in the election. Ahmadinejad’s provincial tours and his “bravery” in foreign policy issues were some of the reasons that the society decided to name him as its favored candidate.
